Thanks for the information, Michael. I definitely need a lot of help in the area of lighting. Are there any resources we can find to learn more about it? Perhaps on the internet?
- I work on High End Wedding videos. It is what we call Cinetagraphy Wedding Documentation.
- I co-shoot and edit informercials for Small Businesses
- I do Corporate Video, like 'happy face' spots, and interviews
My task is to simply film and edit together the content. There is not much of special effects in my work. I say, "The simpler the better." I handle video cameras manually. Most of my creativeness comes from production and not from post-production. This guarantees great quality work at a professional value.
What equipment do you use?
Camera: Sony FX1 and Z1U with HD, Sony Broadcast Camera DXC-637 w/ DVCAM
Tripod: Geared and rapid tripods, monopod, steadystick, steady cam user, 6-10 ft T-jib
Audio: Sony wireless lavieliers, recorders
Lenses: Wide lenses, fisheye lenses, polarizer filters
Light Kit: Professional 3 light kit
Editing: Sony Vegas Pro 8 on an HP Quad-Core Processor
DVD Authoring: Sony DVD Architech Pro 4.5
Just type in lighting for film or HD. You will be surprised what comes up.
In film or HD lighting use bounce light, or diffused light when you can. Maybe pop a light through a windows for additional fill light or key light.
But remember you may have color correct the window; i.e., 3200K if using tungsten light inside. For example CTO/ND combo (85N3;06)
Never light more than a 3:1 ratio (key-fill) If you have a light meter use it religiously. Don't necessarily eyeball it all of the time. Remember, you paint with light like an artist paints with colors. Lighting is an art form. Don't always rely on the camera or your compute editor to fix things.
Think about what your doing. Judge the scene. Be creative....

My church is pentecostal (i don´t know if is correct the spelling) but this is the idea. basically my work consists in record the pastor´s message and after in postpro added another details like animations, bible text, another rushes, etc.
saw your website and your works. The photography is impeccable. Congratulations. The idea of recording in HD is expensive but the final work is awesome.
I just post some interesting pictures on my page. With them you'll see how we did a very elaborate scene with almost no budget. The simple trick gave a stunning scene in the upcoming film ''Seven days''.
